REDESCUBRIMIENTO DEL COLIBRI AMAZILIA CASTANEIVENTRIS , UNA ESPECIE ENDÉMICA Y AMENAZADA DE COLOMBIA
RESUMEN
Describimos el redescubrimiento de la Amazilia Ventricastaño Amazilia castaneiventris , un colibrí de distribución muy restringida y actualmente considerada en peligro crítico de extinción, después de 25 años sin registros documentados. Encontramos la especie en Soatá, departamento de Boyacá, en donde 11 individuos fueron coleccionados hace medio siglo. Anotamos datos sobre su hábitat y observamos visitas a varias especies de flores, siendo la más importante el nacedero ( Tricanthera gigantea ). Resaltamos las interacciones entre los habitantes de la región y este colibrí, tanto positivos (las actividades avícolas promueven la existencia de hábitat y flores para Amazilia ) y negativa (cacería para el consumo humano).

Rediscovery of Amazilia castaneiventris, an endangered and endemic hummingbird from Colombia
ABSTRACT
We report the rediscovery of the Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird Amazilia castaneiventris , a restricted-range species considered critically endangered, after some 25 years without documented records. We found this hummingbird around Soatá, Department of Boyacá, where 11 specimens were collected a half century ago. We describe its habitat and present observations of flowers visited, among which those of the Nacedero tree ( Tricanthera gigantea ) were the most important. We also emphasize the interactions of the local population, both positive (bee-keeping activities stimulate plantings of melliferous vegetation that provides flowers visited by Amazilia ) and negative (subsistence hunting for food).
