ANÁLISIS DE EGAGRÓPILAS DEL BÚHO RAYADO (ASIO CLAMATOR) EN LA CIUDAD DE MEDELLÍN
RESUMEN
Basados en el análisis de 26 egagrópilas, presentamos datos preliminares sobre la dieta del Búho Rayado (Asio clamator) en la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia. Las presas consumidas por este búho son principalmente vertebrados, especialmente los roedores introducidos (Mus musculus y Rattus spp.) (n=18); encontramos además artrópodos de los órdenes Blattaria (cucarachas) y Orthoptera (grillos). También encontramos restos de un ratón nativo (Sigmodontinae) y fue notoria la ausencia de restos de aves, reportadas como presas de este búho en otros estudios. La evidente preferencia del Búho Rayado hacia roedores pequeños en Medellín es consistente con los resultados de otros estudios de la especie, realizadas principalmente en el sur de Sur América.

Analysis of pellets of the Striped Owl (Asio clamator) in the city of Medellín
ABSTRACT
Based on the analysis of 26 pellets, we present preliminary data on the diet of the Striped Owl (Asio clamator) in the city of Medellín, Colombia. This owl consumed mainly vertebrate prey, especially introduced rodents (Mus musculus and Rattus spp.). We also found arthropods of the orders Blattaria (cockroaches) and Orthoptera (crickets). Remains of a native rodent (Sigmodontinae) were detected in two pellets, and the absence of bird remains (reported as prey in other studies) was noteworthy. In general, the preference of the Striped Owl in Medellín for small rodents is consistent with the results of other studies conducted mainly in southern South America.
