NUEVOS REGISTROS DE AVES EN LA PARTE ALTA DE LA SERRANÍA DE LAS QUINCHAS, MAGDALENA MEDIO, COLOMBIA
RESUMEN
Durante una visita corta en enero de 2006 a la parte alta de la Serranía de las Quinchas, observamos seis especies nuevas para la serranía: Anurolimnas viridis, Malacoptila mystacalis, Sclerurus mexicanus, Cyphorhinus phaeocephalus, Coryphospingus pileatus y Cacicus cela. Adicionalmente registramos cuatro especies en la parte alta que habían sido reportadas solamente en la parte baja de la serranía: Herpetotheres cachinnans, Chaetura brachyura, Dryocopus lineatus y Myrmeciza laemosticta; y confirmamos la presencia de Odontophorus erythrops y Scytalopus atratus, las cuales sólo habían sido identificadas tentativamente en estudios anteriores. La mayor parte de estos registros fueron auditivos por lo que resaltamos la importancia de conocer y grabar las vocalizaciones para los inventarios de avifaunas. El conocimiento de la avifauna de la parte alta de la Serranía de las Quinchas sigue incompleto mientras el área enfrenta un creciente auge de explotación maderera y carece de cualquier protección efectiva.

New bird records from the highlands of Serranía de las Quinchas, middle Magdalena valley, Colombia
ABSTRACT
During a brief survey in the highlands of Serranía de las Quinchas on January 2006, we found six bird species new to the Serranía: Anurolimnas viridis, Malacoptila mystacalis, Sclerurus mexicanus, Cyphorhinus phaeocephalus, Coryphospingus pileatus and Cacicus cela. In addition, we reported four species in the highlands that were only known from the nearby lowlands: Herpetotheres cachinnans, Chaetura brachyura, Dryocopus lineatus, and Myrmeciza laemosticta; and confirmed the presence of Odontophorus erythrops and Scytalopus atratus, two species only provisionally identified by previous workers. Because most of these records were gathered by voice detection, we highlight the importance of recognizing and recording vocalizations for avian surveys. The avifauna of highlands of the Serranía de las Quinchas remains incompletely known but this area faces increasing logging activity and lacks any effective protection.
